Welcome

The TEST Lab focuses on several aspects of social cognition including stereotypes, social comparison processes, attention, and information processing. More specifically, we examine the experience of stereotype threat, defined as the situational pressure posed by the prospect of being seen or treated through the lens of a negative group stereotype as well as ways to reduce the negative effects of stereotype threat.

Our lab team conducts research on stereotyping, prejudice, discrimination, and intergroup relations. We seek to understand these topics from both the target and pepetrator's perspective. Some of our main questions are:

What do the racial make up of our frienship networks say about us?

What are the positive and negative effects of exposure to counter-stereotypic exemplars (role models)?

Why do people support policies that are viewed as infringing on civil liberties and does this support depend on who is proposing policy?

How are various immigrant groups viewed and why are some immigrant groups viewed as a threat while others are not?
